Do you have to purchase special antibiotic creams or gels after the surgery to keep the incision from getting too much scar tissue?

as a general answer to that query, i believe it is a must! even skin types which are classified as not keloidal should have some creams or lotions applied on. after all, your skin has been cut, hence it needs to have healing creams or lotions on it.

Precisely Bea dear! That should come from the doctor. Dont buy over-the-counter suggestions. You have a special type of need and only your doctor could know whats best for you!

I think your being able to purchase over the counter creams depends on hat country you are in.

Most ointments, like A&D Ointment in the USA, are safe to use on healing incisions.

I would think some sort of ointment would be necessary to keep the skin from getting dry and tight. Antibiotic ointments would probably speed up the healing process, too.

he nurses and the doctors at the hospital will give you instructions but basically once they take the bandage off your incision all you need to do is wash it with soap and water when you take a shower and pat it dry. Take a look at it and make sure it is nice and clean without any drainage. If you see anything leaking or opening once you get home then let your doctor know. As far as any support depends on the doctor. Some have you wear a binder after for muscle support while others nothing. You can wear support undies if you want but you still will be quite swollen and they may feel too tight in the beginning. As long as you are comfortable with the support undies on then it is fine but make sure to air out you incision a few times a day. You don't want it to stay covered up long since moisture can promote an infection. Talk to your doctor if you have further concerns and good luck.
